The U Me Aur Hum (a Hindi phrase that loosely translates to "I and You") film, which was first released in 2013, has played a part in shaping the identity of Indian youth. The movie features the testimonials of hundreds of young voices across India on their personal struggles and triumphs as they struggle to find themselves through their technology. It was this movie that inspired the #SelfieSocial movement which came about as a social media campaign for millennial Indians to share selfies and stories with others online. The movie was listed among TIME's Top 10 Movies of 2013. American director Scott Dikkers, has explored this film in his documentary "I MEAN BUSINESS: Selfie Culture and Social Media in India" (2014). This film won an award at Tribeca Film Festival 2014 for 'Best Documentary'. U Me Aur Hum India The U Me Aur Hum film was first released in India in September 2012. The film has been featured at the following festivals: Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, New York, New Jersey International Hindi Film Festival, American Bazaar Film Festival, India International Centre, Mumbai International Film Festival, Indian Documentary Producers Association. USA The film was screened at Columbia University’s Asia Society on September 21st 2013. A panel discussion with the directors followed featuring Sheila Dhar (Executive Producer), Kapil Gupta (Producer) and Hari Govil (Actor). The film was also screened at University of Pennsylvania on 14th November 2013, followed by a panel discussion with the directors. Civil Rights and Diversity Forum at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland hosted a screening of the film on November 14th, 2013. This film won Best International Film at the 2013 Hollywood Film Festival. The film played at multiple Indian American International Film festivals in Washington D.C., New Jersey 2014 and 2016. 2014 festival hosted a panel discussion with the movie’s director Anand Gandhi and actress Revathi in attendance. The U Me Aur Hum film also played at Oakland Asian Cultural Center in California in 2017 to a large audience who were interested in learning more about India and its different social contexts. U Me Aur Hum was chosen as a film to screen at the New York University's American Film Institute for the spring 2018 semester. The U Me Aur Hum film has been inspired by a genuine grassroots movement called the Selfie Social Campaign.
